Product Description Columbia Pictures Step Brothers (Blu-ray)
Amazon.com Crude, juvenile, and proud of it, Step Brothers stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as two 40-year-old men, both living at home and leading the lives of 13-year-old boys, who are thrown together when their single parents (Mary Steenburgen, Parenthood, and Richard Jenkins, Six Feet Under) get married. Brennan (Ferrell) and Dale (Reilly) start out hating each other as only teenage boys can--but things get even worse for their long-suffering parents when they become best friends. Step Brothers gets most of its mileage from very lowbrow humor, but hidden among the farts and masturbation jokes is the suggestion that while these guys may be emotionally arrested, so are Brennan's hotshot business executive brother (Adam Scott, Tell Me You Love Me) and his high-fiving frat-boy pals, just in a way that's condoned because it makes money. Also crucial is that Ferrell and Reilly capture adolescence in all its gruesome glory--the awkward insecurity but also the egomaniacal, arrogant self-centeredness. Mind you, this isn't the American version of The 400 Blows or anything--one of the movie's setpieces features Brennan tea-bagging Dale's drum set (and if you don't know what tea-bagging is... well, you will after seeing this movie). All in all, Step Brothers combines the adolescent humor of producer Judd Apatow (Superbad, Knocked Up) and the comic chemistry of Ferrell and Reilly (who previously costarred in Talladega Nights)--fans of either will find plenty to enjoy. --Bret Fetzer Stills from Step Brothers (click for larger image)

Our society is in trouble if people are rating this a 5 star movie January 5, 2009 cd-heaven (rock n roll heaven) To give this movie 5 stars is saying it's a classic right up there with some of the other great 5 star comedies of Duck Soup, Blazing Saddles, Trading Places, Airplane, Caddyshack, and the like. I am sorry, but this is not even in the same league as Talladaga Nights, which at best is a solid 4 star romp. This movie was just trying to hard to be funny, yet it was annoying and obnoxious...and a comedy script was not even present, it just left like Will Ferrell and John C Reilly were just improving most of the movie. Its worrisome to see so many 5 star reviews and the reviewers where all over 13 years of age...yikes!
Crude is not the problem... January 5, 2009 a fan (Glendale, Arizona USA) I liked Superbad and Knocked Up, loved Forgetting Sarah Marshall, 40-Year-Old Virgin was okay, Talladega Nights was funny...so the fact that Step Brothers is crude is not the problem I have with it. And the fact that it is dumb is not the big issue either. There is just not one single character to like in this movie. They are all selfish jerks and/or selfish idiots. The parents were stupid, unlike Kathy Bates and Terry Bradshaw in Failure to Launch which was tonally quite different but had the same grown-man-who-won't-move-out thing going on... For what it's worth I couldn't sit through Anchorman but thought Blades of Glory was kind of funny. If your likes and dislikes match mine, then Step Brothers is one to skip.
Hilarious! January 5, 2009 Mom, Wife and Employee (North Carolina) This movie is pretty cude and "un-P.C." but so funny! If you like silly bathroom humor, etc. you will love this one. May replace Billy Madison as my favorite laugh out loud movie!
Language January 5, 2009 AnthroEnthusiast The language is horrible. Do they really have to swear every other word? It doesn't make it funnier!
Obnoxious January 5, 2009 LovestheAuroras (Minnesota) This is the worst movie I have seen in a very long time. Too much swearing and obnoxious behavior that was not even funny. Just awful!
