Amazon.com A more accessible and less heavy-handed movie than Ang Lee's 2003 HulkLouis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk is a purely popcorn love affair with Marvel's raging, green superhero, as well as the old television series starring Bill Bixby as Dr. David Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the beast within him. Edward Norton takes up where Eric Bana left off in Lee's version, playing Bruce (that's the character's original name) Banner, a haunted scientist always on the move. Trying to eliminate the effects of a military experiment that turns him into the Hulk whenever his emotions get the better of him, Banner is hiding out in Brazil at the film's beginning. Working in a bottling plant and communicating via email with an unidentified professor who thinks he can help, Banner goes postal when General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross and a small army turn up to grab him. Intent on developing whatever causes Banner's metamorphoses into a weapon, Ross brings along a quietly deranged soldier named Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), who wants Ross to turn him into a supersoldier who can take on the Hulk. The adventure spreads to the U.S., where Banner hooks up with his old lover (and Ross' daughter), Betty (Liv Tyler), and where the Hulk takes on several armed assaults, including one in a pretty unusual location: a college campus. The film's action is impressive, though the computer-generated creature is disappointingly cartoonish, and a second monster turning up late in the movie looks even cheesier. Norton is largely wasted in the film--he's essentially a bridge between sequences where he disappears and the Hulk rampages around. As good an actor as he is, Norton doesn't have the charisma here to carry those scenes in which one waits impatiently for the real show to begin. --Tom Keogh

Lots of cgi but still an enjoyable, if long, movie January 5, 2009 K. Maxwell (Perth, Australia) I have to say I enjoyed this Hulk movie up until the last fight sequence - which seemed to drag on and on and made me hit the fast forward button through sections of it without feeling I lost anything by it. I had to smile at the homage references to the Hulk TV series. The opening section of the movie in the Brazilian slums was a nice touch - it was certainly a different setting for a movie like this. For me in many ways it was the final scenes of this movie that were the most interesting, and if you enjoyed Iron Man you should pick up this movie for that alone. I've given this review three stars because of the over-extended fight sequence at the end of it (shades of Spider Man 3!) and the cgi which disappointed me a little as they seem to have relied on it to make up for the lack of character relationships (one of the highlights of the TV series), but if there is a sequel to this movie I'll watch it on DVD if nothing else.
You wouldn't like it if it's Bad January 2, 2009 Victor Hugo (Wisconsin) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Kudos to Marvel and their continuing movie franchise. The 2008 movie blows away the 2005 movie in every regard - acting, plot, believable unbelievable action etc. Norton is a great choice to pick up baton from Bixby. I enjoyed the cameo apperance of Lou Ferrigno. The filming of the scenes in South America was great. Now, if I could make a request, I'd love to see The Mighty Thor properly done. Hopefully it's on the creative board somewhere already.
Good Comic Book to Screen Project January 2, 2009 Dan Blankenship (Lowell, IN USA) Bravo and good show to Liv Tyler. Her performance as Betty Ross is her best acting to date. She almost steals the show from everyone else involved on the screen. She works extremely well with Edward Norton, who also makes an excellent Bruce Banner. The struggle of fighting against the government's plan to use genetic manipulation as a war weapon always makes for a good action flick, and The Hulk does not drop the ball on that history. The storyline keeps moving along, and the rich landscape scenes make this movie play out like an artistic wonderland filled with covert operations and outright war in the streets. The CGI was able to make The Hulk come off the pages of the comic books and appear on screen. That said, I still had a problem with the cartoon-look at different times in the movie. I also found it a little strange that in the final fight scene of the movie there just happened to be a giant chain to for The Hulk and Abomination to choke each other with. I mean what are the odds that such a huge chain would just fall into the battle in the middle of the city. I do believe Sam Elliot would have been a better choice than William Hurt in the role as General Ross. I like William Hurt, but in this role, he just seemed a little too stiff. Elliot would have provided that "is that dude crazy" element. Christina Cabot is always a pleasure to see on any movie screen. This woman's career has just begun! Look for her to have way bigger roles in the near future. So, to finish off this review: If you liked The Incredible Hulk comic books, then you will like the CGI work in this film. If you have to have perfect CGI in order to get through a script on film, well The Hulk is not the movie for you. See ya next review!
This is how the First Hulk should've been made January 2, 2009 Glenn J. Novak (Edison, NJ United States) This Hulk was definitely 110% better than the first movie (which sucked bigtime). You see more of the Hulk and there is a decent amount of action here. Great story, compelling characters including Ed Norton who made a superb Bruce Banner. Liv Tyler was a nice sight to look at but her character wasn't that great however she did play a big role. I like that this wasnt another origin story but how he became the Hulk was told using flashbacks scattered throughout this movie. Great idea ! Origin storys tend to be too slow moving for me. I loved the Abomination and even though the fight was too short for me, it really added a lot to this movie. The effects were great and the Hulk's CGI looked better here than the first movie (the one that sucked bigtime). It's such a shame that this movie didnt do great box office because it deserved to make a lot more. But they are still planning another Hulk movie which i can't wait to see. Hopefully they won't make us wait too long.
Perfect for Superhero fans January 1, 2009 Traces Mommy (North Carolina) My son loved this movie. For adults it is also fun to watch. It is not as great as some of Edward Norton's movies but still is entertaining. I found it to be better than Iron Man. The action is great. My boys beg to watch it again and again and I actually don't mind. I did not give it 5 stars because it can be slow moving at times and I felt like it could have been a bit better, I always expect a lot from Norton though. For kids though it is 5 stars all the way.
